Are there crocodiles in Watamu?
Short answer: you will not encounter crocodiles on Turtle Bay Beach or around GK Palms on GK Lane. The coastline guests use for swimming and beach walks is a marine and resort environment, not crocodile habitat.
Crocodiles are associated with riverine and mangrove systems further inland — notably parts of the Mida Creek ecosystem. Organised creek trips with local guides are the appropriate way to learn about that habitat. Do not wander unguided into mangrove channels looking for wildlife.
If you book a Mida Creek day trip, follow your guide’s instructions, stay in designated craft, and keep hands inside the boat. Treat wild animals with distance and respect.
